Union of Myanmar Travel
Association
The 18-member Union of Myanmar Travels Association
was formed in April of2002 to work with the Ministry
of Hotel and Tourism, the Myanmar Tourism Promotion
Board and other affiliates to support the tourist
and service industries of Myanmar. Its aim is to
promote the interests of the travel and tour
companies by helping to organize fairs, seminars,
conventions and workshops, and to create public
awareness of the industry.
In order to foster participation of the general
public, UMTA together with the Myanmar Chef's
Association organized the Monhinga Competition in
May of this year. Monhinga is a traditional Myanmar
noodle dish. This competition is a resounding
success with hundreds of people who compete or to
come to taste.
Again, on July 31, 2002, a seminar on the
Development of Hiking and Mountaineering was held
jointly with the Department of Forestry and the
Universities Hiking and Mountaineering Association.
The objective is to promote Tourism in
adventure-related holidays.
In August UMTA will offer a course in Basic
Management regarding Tourism is to be opened at the
training school of the Ministry of Hotel and
Tourism. This course is opened to the staff of
travel and tour companies. This is one of the many
courses offered at the training school.
