Mergui Archipelago

Mergui Archipelago, an immense area that covers approximately 36,000 sq km (14,000 sq miles), located in southernmost part of Myanmar (Burma), comprises over 800 beautiful islands. Due to its virtual isolation, the islands and surrounding seas are alive with an amazing diversity of flora & fauna and very beautiful underwater scenes and marine life. The only human inhabitants in the area are sea gypsies, called Salones by Myanmars. They live on boats during dry seasons and remain on land during rainy seasons. They still practice the same fishing and boat building techniques used for generations.

The islands are rugged, unspoiled terrestrial scenery, high-profile limestone and granite topography. The vast majority are uninhabited and largely untouched by humans. Dense brush and rainforest cover most areas above the high-tide line, while vast stretches of mangroves and magnificent white-sand beaches are interspersed with rocky headlands, tidal creeks and a few freshwater rivers.

Underwater, this region offers scenic reefs, fascinating topography and prolific fish and invertebrate life. One of the main attractions for divers is the strong possibility of seeing big animals, especially sharks and rays. More dependable, however, is the tremendous variety of smaller fish and reef creatures, including many unusual species, some of which are rarely encountered in other water. Add to this the allure of diving where few people have visited before and you've got all the ingredients for a top-notch dive destination. Considering the vast number of islands and reefs, many more dive sites are undoubtedly waiting to be discovered.

We offers a broad range of activities in the Mergui Archipelago that will gives you the opportunity to visit one of the last and most diverse, untouched frontiers in Myanmar.

Sea Kayaking Tours; Snorkeling Tours; Camping Tours; the Dolphins Program; Sport Fishing Tours; Sailing Tours; Cruising Tours and Adventure Tours. These activities are best at the following nearby islands group: Salone Island - located only 3 nautical miles from Kawthaung, 4 nautical miles from Ranong, Thailand and 120 nautical miles from Phuket. Due to it's proximity to these towns the visitors could make a day trips and excursions. Myauk Ni Island - included in the Salone Islands group. The foreign visitors know this island as the Red Monkey Island. The visitors could enjoy white sand beaches, corals, fishes, forests and birds at this Island. Visitors could also get together with the Salones who mostly live on their boats (Kabangs) to collect shells, fish and various marine animals around this Island. Myinn Khwar Island - known to foreigners as the Horse Shoe Island. This Island is also included in the Salone Islands group. Visitors could observe lime stone rocks, caves, corals, fishes, lagoons, exquisite beaches, forests and birds around this Island. We also offers a wide range of diving trips with a choice of many locations and dive sites. Watch grey reef whale sharks life at the Burma Banks, glide along with manta rays and many schools of dolphins at the Andaman Sea!
