Home to 4.7 million people, most of whom belong to the
division's overwhelmingly Bamar majority, Magway is located
in the west of Myanmar, in Myanmar's dry zone. From April to
May, the division is hot and dry.
Magway, the capital of the eponymous division, is a mid-size
town, located on the eastern bank of ayarwaddy River, 850km
north of Yangon. Its riverside location ensures plenty of
boat traffic, espically to and from Minbu.
Near the capital is the Mya Tha Lun Pagoda, a typical
Myanamr stupa that dates from 1929.
MAgway Division boasts the distinction of being the largest
of Myanmar's seven divisions, taking up 17305 square miles.
